   Divorce Mediation Services

One of the great features of mediation is that you and your spouse get to decide what’s best for you, even if it’s different from what the laws provide. There are a few things you cannot legally agree to—such as giving up the right to receive child support.  Other than the few exceptions, you are free to make whatever agreement is best for you. Being free to decide the terms of your settlement doesn’t mean that the legal rules aren’t significant. If you want your agreement to withstand the test of time.

Divorce Mediation is an alternative to the court room and uses compromise to develop a contract to present to the court, to eventually convert to a Divorce Decree.

This generally takes four (it may take more if all 25 issues the court demands completed are not completed at the end of 4 sessions), one hour sessions.  One hour sessions are $150, per session.  If a session goes a half hour longer, it is $100 extra.  ALL FEES ARE NON-NEGOCIABLE  AND DUE AT THE BEGINING OF THE SESSION.  NO EXCEPTIONSWhen all 25 issues are complete, a Motion of Understanding  (MOU) will be generated.  This form costs $250 (non-negotiable).  The MOU is to be submitted with the divorce paperwork to the judge so the Divorce Decree (the document that means your divorce is final) can be developed.  It is highly recommended that you have at least one attorney involved in the process to walk you through the paperwork, the process and to generate the Divorce Decree.

We have an attorney in the office that can be neutral, however, you are welcome to use your own attorney or do it pro se (without an attorney).  Those interested in Divorce Mediation can call 630-503-7912 to make an appointment.
